Cozy, Budget Friendly Condo in Easily Walkable Central Location

Kauai Kailani 218 is a cozy, island-chic style condo right in the mix of all that the Royal Coconut Coast has to offer on Kauai's East Side. Your intimate escape has 2 bedrooms, with the option to use the second bedroom as a den or home office if the sleeper sofa isn't needed, a fully equipped and beautifully redone kitchen, and an open living space filled with plenty of natural light. There's also a spacious lanai overlooking one of the complex pools.

At Kauai Kailani you'll find yourself situated in one of the only truly walkable areas on Kauai! If you want to get around without a rental car, you'll be able to here. You'll find a Safeway just across the street in the Kauai Village Shopping Center, as well as a Starbucks, a variety of restaurants for all your tastes, and an ABC Store for all your souvenir needs. We highly recommend checking out Wailua Shave Ice if you're in the mood for dessert, get it snow capped and thank us later! If you're more in the mood for fine dining, make a reservation at Oasis on the Beach and walk right next door for a beautiful open-air, oceanfront meal. The beach directly in front of Kauai Kailani is great for soaking up some sun and taking a stroll, but for swimming we recommend walking 20 minutes up the road to Kapa'a Beach Park and enjoying the soft golden sand and beautiful waters! If you're looking to dive in to Hawaiian culture, Luau Ka Hikina is just a 10 minute walk away, and if you're driving you can head down to Smith's Family Garden Luau as well. For those looking to do a bit of jogging or biking, or taking in the coastal scenery on a long walk, you can head out on the 8 mile long Ke Ala Hele Makalae (Kauai Multiuse Path) that stretches from Lydgate Beach Park all the way up to Donkey's Beach. Kauai Kailani is at the rough midpoint of the path, so be prepared for quite a trek.

If you prefer to stay a little closer to home on vacation and focus on relaxing instead, Kauai Kailani 218 is just the place! There are two pools on the grounds to choose from: one is right outside your building, and the other overlooks the water for some incredible oceanfront swimming, without all the salt. There's also an outdoor grilling area next to the pool your unit overlooks, perfect for grilling out while enjoying a pool day! Please note, though, that there are no laundry facilities on the grounds, so you must walk 5 minutes to the Laundromat Express off of Kuhio Highway if you'd like to do laundry during your stay.

For those who do rent a car, Wailua Falls and Opaeka'a Falls are incredible sites in the mountainous interior, while Old Kapa'a Town, just 3 miles away, is a charming spot for souvenirs and sightseeing. Check out the farmers market every Wednesday afternoon for the largest selection of locally grown produce on the island, and the Old Kapa'a Art Walk the first Saturday evening of every month for artisanal jewelry, clothing, art, and more! If you want to explore the entire island, you'll definitely need a rental car, as drive time to the North Shore (Hanalei, Princeville, Kilauea) is about 50 min, and to Poipu on the South Shore is roughly 35 min.

As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned, however there are ceiling fans in each room, screen doors on the lanai, and additional fans available to help with airflow.

This is a second floor unit so you need to be able to go up and down one flight of stairs (18 steps). There are no elevators.

Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party.

Conveniently located, but some problems and comments
Overall the stay was okay. I feel “steps to the beach” might be misleading and even dangerous for some. I’m a seasoned traveler and have been to Hawaii many times and grew up fairly close to beaches. The beach this unit is steps to is definitely not ideal for beginning swimmers or people who are not aware of the power of the ocean. I knew this was a possibility when I booked but kept an open mind. I’d still like to warn future travelers. The sink faucet was missing buttons to switch to spray mode. The dishwasher wasn’t useful at all. We ran it once and it barely did anything, and then wound up washing everything by hand. No recycling cans on the property that we are aware of. It’s weird that so many other units have a reserved parking space but this unit does not. This is disclosed in the listing but I found it odd that some units do have a space but some don’t, It also appeared to be the only unit without air conditioning in that building. The sliding screen doors were both coming off the track. They were not able to fix that right away but assured me they’d have it fixed after I leave. They were prompt in responding. I hope this helps the host and future customers. Mahalo. 🙏

1st stay in Kauai
This was our 1st visit to Kauai. The condo was, clean, roomy (lots of closet space/no dressers) and centrally located with stores nearby. We didn't have assigned parking so had to park on the access road but was able to find parking fairly easily. Unit was close to the beach and there were nice lounge chairs to relax in. You are only allowed one towel set per person for the whole visit or pay a $35 per load laundry fee. We were there for the week and elected to use a laundromat close by rather than pay the fee. When I go again I will chose a unit with a washer/dryer and pack lighter. Tub did not have a grab bar and the anti skid material on the tub floor is worn off. Definitely a safety hazard. There was no a/c but we went in May so ceiling fans and stand alone fan were more than adequate. Television is a Roku so if you are not familiar with that it may be a challenge. Also Internet connection was intermittent had to reconnect multiple times every night. The unit was quiet with exception of traffic and neighbors upstairs in unit above us. You could hear every footstep, the child running end to end and chairs being pulled out. Don't call the front desk for anything as they do not manage this unit. The rental group was helpful and responded to texts and phone calls. Overall we had a great time for our first visit.

Very noisy, may be OK for you, not for us
This unit is not only close to the main highway with large trucks starting at 4am, but also backs up to a large condo development parking lot with food delivery trucks, lots of cars, car alarms, beeping locks, etc. I only saw one comment about noise in the reviews, so maybe people are not bothered by this. The issue is that the master has single pane slat windows that do not "seal" against the noise. We used both fans and a noise machine to try to drown out the noise. The unit itself was fine, nice to have a dishwasher and balcony with table and chairs, and the bed was fine. Management was responsive. If you are sensitive to noise, this would not be a good unit for you.

Although the condo met our basic needs, we were disappointed to find that we were in Bldg B which is behind Bldg A which is oceanfront. The picture online is from the pool in Bldg A, not B. We also wished we had AC and a washer-dryer. The unit has fans, but it was still quite uncomfortable inside. It was also annoying to have the internet going on and off. The unit is centrally located in Kapaa, but because we had to leave windows and doors open at times for cooling at night, there was a lot of road noise from the Kuhio Hwy.

Great room, great location
The ocean is literally outside your window. Room was excellent Bed was comfortable, refrigerator roomy, and the view was spectacular. Great value and helpful, friendly, staff. Plan to stay again.

1) No shoes to be worn inside, but nowhere to put them near the door. (needs a hanger on the back of the front door) 2) No extra welcoming effort, other than lots of towels ... e.g. coffee, water, local menus 3) No washer or dryer 4) Too high reliance on email, QR codes, contracts so convoluted it's (almost) enough to scare people away.

Exploring Kawai from here is great as it is easy to go North and South. This particular place is also walking distance to grocery and other shops as well as some restaurants. Splendid!

The perfect condo for a relaxing time in Kauai. Convenient location to a grocery store and restaurants. A beautiful beach is a short walk away where we saw monk seals basking in the sun and we were able to play in the waves (no lifeguard so cautiously of course). For the small kids there is a lovely pool, although it was too cold for the old folks ;) The condo’s lanai felt private and tucked away. Everything was clean and tidy and well maintained. Just all around a lovely condo and a lovely experience.

Great fully equipped kitchen and ocean viewing area. Firstly, the place was absolutely spotless and clean. The kitchen was stocked with supplies that I don’t see any other rentals. The king size bed was very comfortable, I slept very well. One thing I really enjoyed was the grassy area for a viewing the sunrises! It was wonderful! The entire complex was kept very clean. it is a really great location for touring the east and the west side of the island. there was an issue with the shower water, but the management company had a plumber come fix it. Overall five stars, I would recommend and I will stay there again
